I have a 2007 Pacifica with the 4.0L engine.  The manual states to use 10W30 weight oil.  In previous engines over the last 25 years vehicles I have owned called for 5W30.  What gives with Chrysler and the 10W30 business???

The pac and the old jeeps with the 4.0L inline 6 are the only Chryslers to use 10W30. All others call for 5W30 or 5W20 and 0W40 syn. As someone who lives in northern Canada,I have not had any issues with 10W30, even in -35C.

On the 10 - 30 oil, for some unknown reason this is a really big issue with Chrysler on this weight oil. The service manager said when he first saw the oil cap with thw 10-30 on the first 4. engine that got back last year he called Chrysler. So let it be 10-30 oil, it's easier to find too.

Was at the dealership today.  Asked service what they used on oil changes on the Pac.  They said 5W30 even though the filler cap on the 4.0 says 10W30.  They also said if the Pac is going into a warm  climate for the winter they would use 10W30.  Said in winter in South Dakota to use 5W30.
