Default 1990 New Yorker Engine/trans Swap

Hi im new to this forum, id like to thank everyone for replying in advance. First of all im looking to buy a 1990 New yorker that has a motor that overheats and a transmission that will not go in reverse. Car is for sale for $725 but they are a friend of mine and said all i have to pay is $500. I dont know much about it yet but i do know its front wheel drive with a V6.

What i would like to do is replace that with a V8 and convert it to rear wheel drive. How much time and money will be involved and will the power output be worth it compared to going with a performance V6 turbocharged (FWD). for now thats all i have because that is all i know. Thank you.

Not a wise idea. You could buy a brand new Charger for the amount of money that would cost you. Simply replacing the tranny is surely possible but changing it to rear wheel drive? My God, you don't even want to know what insanity you would have to go through to do such a thing.

As far as the motor the suspension would have to be completely updated and you'ld have to make significant changes to the frame to get it in there.

My advice is to go find yourself a nice 95-97 LHS for around 3-4k.
