Default 1997 Concorde. Appreciate any help

Hi,
I am new to this site. I have a 1997 chrysler concorde 3.5 liter with 60K original miles. It just would not start one morning. i.e. it cranks but never starts. I know enough about cars to be dangerous and checked for spark and did not see any. So I Replaced the coil pack and that did nothing. Same thing. I then read the camshaft sensor could be issue so replaced that and still no start. I know it is getting fuel as I hear the fuel pump and can smell traces of it on engine. I am fearing the worst that the timing belt may have snapped.

Is there any easy way to determine if the timing belt is bad without disassembling? any additional thoughts to check to what this may be?
Absolutely no problems prior to this happening to give a sign.

timing is bad as I have been out of work for months and cannot afford to take to a shop. I would really appreciate some direction as it is my only car as of now. Thanks in advance.

Thanks again.

Have you tried the Crank Shaft sensor assembly (mount), not the sensor itself. Unplug the sensor and check the assembly, sometimes the pins deteriorate and the connection is lost which can cause engine stalls and all sorts of other problems. This is what was causing problems with my 1999 LHS, but, now the car is running better then ever since the assembly was replaced.

Thanks for that advice. Can you tell me where the Crank shaft sensor is located at? I am not sure...thanks.

One way to see if the timing belt is broke is to take off the valve cover and crank the engine very briefly. If the valves don't move then the belt is not spinning the camshaft and the belt is broke. Not sure if your engine is an interference engine though. Make sure that it IS NOT AN INTERFERENCE engine before trying this method. It is bad news to spin the crank and cam independently of each other in that type of engine.

thanks to all! It was the crank shaft sensor after all. I am still glad I swapped the coil/camshaft sensor as I feel it drives like new at this point..no hesitation or rough idle present anymore..

Happy to hear that you're back up running. Same thing here, no more stalling, hesitation or rough idling. You have to love easy fixes, Amen!
