My girlfriend took my car to work last night and came home this morning. She claims there were no strange sounds coming from the car when she got home. We had to go out shortly after she got home. Imediatly I heard a loud grinding / whirring noise coming from the left front side. I looked under the tire and around the area but didnt see anything. So, took it to my mechanic and he put it up on the lift, cleaned the breaks and said it was fine. I left and the rubbing noise started immediatly. I looked again and this time I noticed the bottom of the strut / spring was rubbing the top inside edge of the tire. Argh! Now I have to get it replaced at a cost of 300 dollars. Anyone else had this happen to them?

Update: The strut had definatly gone bad and nearly destroyed the inside edge of the tire. Had the strut replaced with a quick strut kit. Total cost after labor was $294
