Default Diagnostic suggestions Appreciated

Check engine code P0601 (shorted input sensor) has been on awhile for our 2000 300M 3.1. I am assuming this is something with the computer itself?
Yesterday when I turned the key the car wouldn't crank, click, nothing for numerous attempts, then on coming out 10-15 min later to try again, pumped the brake 3 times and (coincidentally probably), she fired right up. Never had that happen before so just wondering if anyone else has, and if this code could contribute to those circumstances? Thnx!

yeah good question. I thought thats what I read on the Autozone print out but I need to recheck what the manual says. Can't decipher what you gave me to mean but I'm sure its more accurate. I am getting charging system checked and looking to a new alt or bttry even though the Costco bttry is only a year old. Thx.
