oxygen sensor voltage high

Default oxygen sensor voltage high

Hey guys, i purchased a 2002 chrysler 300m with 70k miles couple weeks ago. The previous owner used to put regular gas and i started putting midgrade. Couple days later, check engine light came on, had it scanned and it said oxygen sensor voltage high, so we did a different test on the scanner, and it showed a wierd reading on bank 1 sensor 1, changed that sensor, filled up the gas tank and drove for about 30 miles, the light came back on. Is bank 1 sensor 1 the passenger side top sensor and any ideas on what might be causing this?

O2 SENSOR RETURN CIRCUIT OPEN
O2 SENSOR SIGNAL SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
thats what u are looking for if u say u replaced the sensor already


bank 1 sensor 1 would be bank 1 is the closest spark plug to u if u were looking at the engine stright on. a 3.5 would be the passanger side bank 1 and sensor 1 is upstream. or closest to the engine. Here is the chrysler test to fallow I know the format on here will be funkey because this is a cut and past from a pdf file.


TEST ACTION APPLICABILITY
1 Start the engine.
Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature.
With the DRBIIIt, read the O2 Sensor voltage.
Is the voltage above 3.99 volts?
All
Yes ! Go To 2
No ! Go To 8
2 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the O2 Sensor harness connector.
Ignition on, engine not running.
With the DRBIIIt, monitor the O2 Sensor voltage.
Is the O2 Sensor voltage below 4.8 volts?
All
Yes ! Go To 3
No ! Go To 5
3 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the O2 Sensor harness connector.
Ignition on, engine not running.
Measure the voltage on the O2 Sensor Return circuit in the O2 Sensor harness
connector.
Is the voltage at 2.5 volts?
All
Yes ! Replace the O2 Sensor.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
No ! Go To 4
4 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the O2 Sensor harness connector
Disconnect the PCM harness connector.
CAUTION: DO NOT PROBE THE PCM HARNESS CONNECTORS. PROBING
THE PCM HARNESS CONNECTORS WILL DAMAGE THE PCM TERMINALS
RESULTING IN POOR TERMINAL TO PIN CONNECTION. INSTALL
MILLER SPECIAL TOOL #8815 TO PERFORM DIAGNOSIS.
Measure the resistance of the O2 Sensor Return circuit from the O2 Sensor harness
connector to the appropriate terminal of special tool #8815.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
All
Yes ! NOTE: Before continuing, check the PCM harness connector
terminals for corrosion, damage, or terminal push out. Repair as
necessary. Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module
in accorance with the Service Information.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
No ! Repair the open in the O2 Sensor return circuit.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.

DIRECT LINE WITH THE FAN. DO NOT PUT YOUR HANDS NEAR THE
PULLEYS, BELTS OR FAN. DO NOT WEAR LOOSE CLOTHING.
Start the engine and allow the engine to idle.
Measure the voltage on the O2 Sensor Signal circuit in the O2 Sensor harness
connector.
Is the voltage above 5.0 volts?
All
Yes ! Repair the short to voltage in the O2 Sensor Signal circuit.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
No ! Go To 6
6 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the O2 Sensor harness connector
Disconnect the PCM harness connector.
CAUTION: DO NOT PROBE THE PCM HARNESS CONNECTORS. PROBING
THE PCM HARNESS CONNECTORS WILL DAMAGE THE PCM TERMINALS
RESULTING IN POOR TERMINAL TO PIN CONNECTION. INSTALL
MILLER SPECIAL TOOL #8815 TO PERFORM DIAGNOSIS.
Measure the resistance of the O2 Sensor Signal circuit from the O2 Sensor harness
connector to the appropriate terminal of special tool #8815.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
All
Yes ! Go To 7
No ! Repair the open in the O2 Sensor Signal circuit.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
7 NOTE: Before continuing, check the PCM harness connector terminals for
corrosion, damage, or terminal push out. Repair as necessary.
If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair.
All
Repair
Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance
with the Service Information.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
8 NOTE: The conditions that set the DTC are not present at this time. The
following list may help in identifying the intermittent condition.
WARNING: WHEN THE ENGINE IS OPERATING, DO NOT STAND IN A
DIRECT LINE WITH THE FAN. DO NOT PUT YOUR HANDS NEAR THE
PULLEYS, BELTS OR FAN. DO NOT WEAR LOOSE CLOTHING.
With the engine running at normal operating temperature, monitor the DRBIIIt
parameters related to the DTC while wiggling the wire harness. Look for parameter
values to change and/or a DTC to set.
Review the DRBIIIt Freeze Frame information. If possible, try to duplicate the
conditions under which the DTC was set.
Refer to any Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) that may apply.
Visually inspect the related wire harness. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or
partially broken wires.
Visually inspect the related wire harness connectors. Look for broken, bent, pushed
out, or corroded terminals.
Were any of the above conditions present?
All
Yes ! Repair as necessary
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
No ! Test Complete.
