Default radio console removal question '99LHS - 300M

Whoever had my car before me must have done some modification on the area below the radio where you can stash things...you know the little opening that is about the same size opening as a DIN slot.

Anyway, the back and sides were cut to accomodate something and as a result I put something in there that must have slid forward toward the firewall and fallen down below.

I'm pretty sure that if I get the side foot well trim plastic panel off (probably easier to do on the passenger side) I might be able to feel around and reach the item that I'm looking for.

Either that or by removing the ashtray and section ahead of the floor shift.

So does anyone have R&R instructions or a diagram/video that might make this process easier?

Thanks
