Default asks for code everytime start up engine

Hi, Can anyone tell me why I need to enter my stereo code every time I start up the car. Apparently the bloke I bought it from said it was a safety feature but it seems a bit stupid if you ask me and is very tedious. Is there a way to change this? Thanks
