04 Sebring Sparkplugs/Stutter at Stop Lights
Hello,
I have a 04 sebring with the 4 cyl 2.4L DOHC engine. Not sure if these problems are related or just happen to be going on at the same time.
When stopped at stop lights it seems to stutter. It does not shut off though. It does not do this all the time either.
When looking for the problem of this we checked the spark plugs as we thought they might be the problem and causing it. When we took the 4th one out we noticed that it was bent right after the metal where the socket goes around. When i would spin the spark glug in my hand the bend was very noticeable just looking at it. It had shades of yellow right where the white porcelain starts.
Does anyone know what would cause eithe problem? The only thing that we could think of was the spark plug was getting to hot.
thanks!
Brock

No way the plug can get hot enough to make the porcelain distort. That kind of heat would melt the metal first. Sounds like the plug may have slipped through quality control. I assume you replaced it along with the rest of the set. Does the car run better with new plugs? Six-year old plugs were probably due for replacement anyway.

Yeah i didn't know if that would be possible to bend that with heat or not. Yeah we replaced them. We are now going to try the wires to see if that helps any. It seems more like a missfire then anything so hopefully the wires will fix the problem.

I had the same problem but after a change of the wires it was gone. As the inside of the cap was damaged (warranty claim took care of that as they were only a few days old when the problem started) that plug misfired.
Is your problem now?
