2001 Sebring engine swap 2.7 to 3.0

Default 2001 Sebring engine swap 2.7 to 3.0

I have a 2001 Sebring conv. with a blown 2.7 and would like to swap it with a 3.0. I need to know can this be done? I dont want to put another junk 2.7 in. thanksRuss

what if I had a 2004 sebring coupe that was wrecked in the rear and I had the whole car. Engine,trans,computer,exhaust,etc . I would almost think it can be done. I m sure it would be alot of work but you would end up with a nice car. Russ

The engine and trans would fit, in the body.But you will have a problem with the wire harness. You are going from a V-6 to I-4 DOHC.

the controllers will cause you problems, not worth the swap.

Thanks I did buy a 2.7 motor with 16000 miles on it out of a 04 sebring sedan. The only differance is the egr valve. I should be able to swap the rear exhaust manifoldand intake from my motor to the new one. Is there anything I can do to get the most out of this new motor? Everyone has this slugging build up problem. Can something be done to stop this? Is there a certain kind or oil I should use to get a longer life out of this new motor?What would you do?thanksRuss

Bump for info. Why would this not work the 3.0l is a V6 and the 2.7l is a V6 and they are both in the Sebring. can someone give a detailed answer other than no the 3.0l is a 4cyl because the 3.0l is clearly not a 4 cyl motor.

The 3.0 is a totally different engine. It has a distributor, the 2.7 does not. The wiring is all different, the plumbing for fuel and cooling is different, the engine mounts are different, the exhaust is different. The engine computers are totally incompatible. Now if you don't mind re-engineering all those components plus a few more such as the throttle controls, air intake, cruise control that I didn't mention, then go ahead and give it a try. When you're all done, even if it actually runs, you will have a vehicle that will be worth about 50¢ on the resale market that no mechanic will touch for anything other than tires, battery or oil change despite the fact that you will have put thousands of dollars in time, money, effort and parts into it.
If you still want to drop a different engine in there, why not go whole hog and plop in a Pontiac V-8? You'll be able to skip the part about re-engineering the computer, the rest of the work will be about the same and when you're done, you'll at least have something that'll turn heads at the dragstrip.

The 3.0 Mitsu engine is very similar to the 2.5 in the 1996 to 2000 sebrings and is commonly swapped into those cars. The 2.7 is a totally different engine.

One huge problem also is that the PCM is INSIDE the car on a Coupe (2.4 and 3.0) It would be a wiring nightmare that you may never recover from
