Default 2002 2.7 swap over to 3.5

I have seen, on Intrepid & Concorde forums, where 2.7 engines have been swapped out for 3.2 and 3.5 engines. Everything pretty much gets swapped out except the 2.7 ECM stays and is reused. Would this work for a 2001/02 Sebring convertible? They had the swap down pat for their particular cars. They claim it is about a 25 hour job and gets rid of the problems of the 2.7 and gives an extra 30-45 horsepower. I have 2 Sebring convertibles and they are fast with the 2.7, wow, with the extra hp I might need a pilot's license...lol. Any ideas about the swap? I think I would want the 3.5 and wonder what models can I get it from. I do know it has to be in the same year range, such as '01- '02 to '01- '02.
Thanks, George

P.S. Did get the transaxle out of my son's LXi convertible. The 3 bolts on the rear engine mount had to come out then it dropped right out. Turns out there is a large hole in the bellhousing behind the converter. Henceforth the leak. I found a trans here locally with 65,000 miles for $250. Yahoo! These cars are great!!!

There was a write-up several years ago over on the Chrysler Sebring Convertible Club website. My recollection was that the guy was able to get everything working except the A/C because the compressor support bracket wouldn't fit. Be advised that you'll probably lose resale value even if it does work and no body will want to service the car after the swap, so you'll be doing all your repairs from here on out.

If you decide to go ahead with this, take lots of pictures and come back and tell us about it.

Default engine swap 2002 Sebring

Thank you DCotter for your advice and help. I am thinking that, if I do such a sawp, I will buy a Sebring convertible with a dead engine, do the swap, and then keep the car. I do heed your warnings and appreciate them. If I do it, I will take pictures and notes and post them here. Thanks again, George

I remember seeing that and the intake was an issue to was to big and had to make a hood or something like that to. Much less of an issue doing the straight 2.7 to 3.5 instead of the horizontal one which is crammed in more.
