Start with the basics. I know you have checked the fluid level. Has the transmission been serviced at recommended interval. If it has ben serviced recently, was the proper fluid used. Even owners manuals have been known to be wrong. Find out what the proper fluid is from a qualified technician like chrysler tech, and never let "anyone" put anything else in. Know your car if you are going to work on it. Phone Chrysler support and check for the recall history for your car by VIN number. Check what TSBs there are for your car. Locate the Solenoid/Pressure switch assembly and the Transmission Control Module. Check for loose connectors and damage toe the harness between them. Never disconnect anything with the ignition key on. Maybe you have solved the problem. Also, Factory Service Manuals are very inexpensive on Ebay.

I had the same problem about a year ago. It would sometimes only go in 1st gear. After starting 10 times, it was OK again for a while, but then that wouldn't fix it either. I replaced the TCM (Transmission Control Module). I got one from the wrecker for $65. You need to find one with the same code # on it. It only takes about 10 minutes to remove. Mine was right behind the left headlight. There are 2 large (1.5" x 2" ) on the side closest to the air filter. Other than that, it might be the Solnoid pack on the transmission. That's about $200 (from Canadian Tire ($300 at Partsource and they are the same company.. go figure)). I thought I had trouble with that earlier this year an bought one, but then held off on replacing, and my problem went away. I think there are 3 bolts and 2 cable on that as well. Do a search on youtube and you'll find a video on how to replace it.
