Convertible top front tack strip '01 Sebring
I am replacing the convertible top on my 2001 Sebring convertible. I am down to attaching new top to the front tack strip. The tack strip is intact. I cannot find 3/16" staples for my T50 at all, in any finish (steel, galvanized, or stainless steel). I am not able to find 1/4" stainless staples either. Around here the only stainless is 3/8" or 1/2". I can use a piece of the old top as a shim to make it so the 1/4" will work, but I can't find locally the 1/4" stainless. I have new tack strip that is 3/8" thick, but the original tack strip is 1/8" and plastic that is held in by short rivets. Has anyone had any experience here? The car is outside and I have been working on it with beautiful dry weather for several days, however, we are expecting rain in about 2 days, so I need to finish this up on Saturday, tomorrow. Thank you for all help. George

I doubt that you can find what you need before the rains come, so you probably want to invest in a suitable tarp for the interim. Tie it down with lots of string under the car to keep it from blowing away. In the meantime, you might want to contact a top installer in your area and see if they will either sell you some staples or give you a lead to their suppliers.

How about these?
Good Luck. Come back and tell us how it went.

I did get the new tack strip installed. I took 1/2" #8 stainless steel screws and cut 1/8" off each one. Then I drilled holes in the new tack strip through into the old 1/8" existing tack strip. I used Loctite instant grip exterior adhesive and glued and screwed the new tack strip to the old one. I was able to staple the new top to the new tack strip with the 3/8" stainless steel staples. It worked fantastically. I hope this helps others suffering with the same problem I had. The Sebring has its maintenance issues, but so does every other car. These cars are so awesome, I own the 2001 LX convertible and now negotiating for a 2004 Limited convertible. Thank you for everything. George
