Default How do I reset my check engine light?

I just replaced my thermostat in my driveway because it was stuck. How do I reset my check engine light so it turns off? I need to get the tag for my car, but with the C.E. light on, they wont do emissions here.

Auto Zone may do it for you with there Hand Held Scanner. Or if you have your own you can do it with that.

If that was the only reason it's on, it may reset itself after several days of normal driving. Better check for other codes first though. There are hundreds of reasons why that light could come on.

Default Engine light reset 04 2.7l

I have an '04 Sebring convertible with a 2.7L . regarding the check engine light it comes on if a component fault is recognised for two consecutive drive cycles. It will continue to set the light until it does NOT detect a fault after 3 or more drive cycles.

Just chiming in, I was told from all the local auto stores in my area incluing auto zone that they're no longer allowed to reset customers engine lights...due to some type of legal issue.

Do you live in California? That would explain it.

Drive over to Michigan. Maybe Indiana.

States pass those stupid rules at the request of the repair shop lobbies. They don't want to have people diagnosing and fixing their own cars when there's money to be made by keeping them ignorant.
