Default 99 intreped here

Just bought it and it was very well maintained like new inside and out with 197000 miles on it and runs great but Im scared to own it very long. Right now its a great car .I just did a 10-30 valvoline full synthetic oil change and added a half a quart of marvel mystery oil to the crank case..I really like this car FOR NOW LOL

That's the wrong weight oil. Should be 5W-30.

Default My 2002 Dodge Stratus w/ 2.7L V6

My Stratus just hit the 200,000 mile mark a few days ago. Bought the car for cheap, so I had no problem putting money into it. It is my plan to keep this car as long as possible. It runs beautifully with out issue, and has some good pickup to it as well.

like I stated earlier about our sebring it's at 259 K on it. We have a secret to our high mileage, as I've noticed that with the 2.7 engine, they are either epic or an epic fail. Luck of the draw, maybe. Our secret is run it until the wheel bearings explode and the wheels fall off. We've had this car upward of 5 thousand feet above sea level in the ochoco national forest in Oregon, the Willamette national forest, the umpqua national forest, also both in oregon. We've had it over the passes in the Sierra Nevada mountains, and down to las Vegas. Its driven back and forth between washington and oregon at least 4 times, hitting the 4700 foot, 8 percent grade of the santiam pass both coming AND leaving. I am just now going to fix the water outlet housing in it and I THINK everything on it is original, except I added a small lightbar for the mountains, and put in silver star headlights. For $1000 I cant complain.

Oh. We bought it with 246 THOUSAND miles on it. We've done ALL of that mentioned above in less than 12,000 miles!😁

My 2001 Sebring sedan 2.7 has about 350K and it still runs excellent.

We bought it new Aug 2001 and still have it but bought a 2011 200 3.6 July 2011

At around 200 K I replaced the 2.7 water pump and spark plugs as routine maintenance

I purposely didn't replace the chains, sprockets or guides as they still looked perfect.

After the factory warranty expired, I experimented with various oil brands and weights.

I've run every combination of synthetic, non synthetic, viscosity and even straight # 40.

I was on a quest to determine if the old wives tales about oil sensitivity were actually accurate.

It runs and sounds the same no matter what oil concoction is in the crankcase!

It's hard to say how much longer the 2.7 it will run but it shows no signs of impending doom.

My only issue is a transmission leak that is proving very difficult to pinpoint.

On the other hand, the 3.6 developed the Pentastar tick at around 140K.

One rocker roller had failed so I replaced it and will see how long the 3.6 lasts.

The old reliable 2.7 never had any rocker noise or had any replaced.

The 2.7 water pump gasket sometimes leaked coolant into the crankcase.

This is why its important to personally check the oil regularly in my opinion.

Some gaskets leak slow and slowly contaminate the Engine oil.

Some fail instantly and fill the crankcase with coolant right away.

Any irregular sign of oil contamination or sludge requires further examination.

Same thing for a sudden, mysterious loss of Engine coolant.

The up dated water pump and gasket don't seem to be failure prone.

Thanks
Randy

The 2.7L gets so much undeserved slamming with the oil sludge issues especially, and frankly put it's simply b/c people don't maintain them regularly IN TIME, and with quality oil/parts. It's a very durable engine in fact.
