Default replacing the headgasket

I have a '02 sebring with the 2.7 that I generally use as a beater car. I'm 99% sure the head gasket is blown. Brown milky oil, car starts up after sitting, but after driving for 10-15 minutes dies, and wont start back up. When replacing the headgaskets is it possible to do it without having to remove the cams, timing chain, etc? Thanks

id suggest you buy a service manual and read over what needs to be done to take it all apart.

take heads to machine shop to check for warpage
replace chains guides and water pump while in there.

Yeah, for sure replace the water pump. Brown milky oil is a possible sign of a leaking water pump.

The best way to check to see if your head gasket is blown is to buy a compression tester at harbor freight and after taking out all of the spark plugs and pulling the fuel relay do a compression test on all of the spark plug slots. this is done by finding the right size adaptor and one cylinder at a time have someone hit the ignition 4 4 to 5 seconds per plug. write down the findings for each cylinder and if they are all pretty much the same you most likely don't have a blown head gasket. if you have 1 or 2 that have a very low number your head gasket is toast in that area. There are a lot of Youtube videos out there that show how to do this. Hope this helps. Besides the tester is only about 30 bucks and it only takes about 45 minutes to an hour to know for sure if your head gasket is good or bad.
