Default Solenoid, Tranny, Brakes, or Something Else?

I have been pouring over any and all threads I can all over the internet looking for any other car that has had this issue and can't find squat. So, here goes...

We bought a 1997 Sebring JXi with the 2.5 in it last weekend. On the way home, it went into 'limp-in mode' so we got it home and replaced the speed sensors on the outside of the tranny and did a drain and fill (correct AFT +4 and a new filter). That solved the 'limp in' issue and cleared up all the codes it was throwing.

My husband took it to work yesterday morning, no issues whatsoever. When he went to come home, he put it into gear to reverse out of his parking spot and nada. It goes into gear, revs up, but it's like the wheels just aren't moving. Even when he lifted the wheels, neither one was spinning.

Hooked up and it's throwing zero codes what so ever, according the scanner, it's in perfect running condition.

It feels like it's going into gear (mini lurches, but no 'oooomph' when going from park to 1st and even into reverse). There's no grinding, no noise what so ever that we can hear from the tranny to indicate a problem. He jacked it up to see if the wheels where turning when put into gear and they weren't. He checked everything he could visibly see everything feels and looks secure.

When it's turned on, you can put it into neutral and it will NOT move, like all the brakes are locked up on it. However, you turn it off and put it into neutral, it will move as it normally would in neutral.

At this point, without it throwing any codes, we're not sure what the next step is. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Next step is probably to seek some professional help at a good transmission shop. They can hook it up to proper hydraulic diagnosis equipment to see what's going on insude the transmission as far as hydraulic pressures are concerned.
They may also have better eletronic diagnosis equipment that can get deeper into the electronics than can your scanner.

Also, be advised that a simple drain and re-fill of the transmission fluid only gets out about half of the fluid. The remaining fluid may have been sufficiently bad to contaminate what you put back in there.

If you don't yet want to throw that kind of money at it, but are willing to risk about $100 or less in parts, you could try replacing the solenoid pack. It's a fairly easy DIY project that might work. No guarantees from here, though. Search the forum here for more discussions about that.
