Default valve cover gasket stuck

the v6 valve cover was leaking oil everywhere so I pulled it off to replace gaskets. The gasket around the rim of the cover is hardened and stuck in the channel. I cut away a little bit of it but can't get the majority of it out. I do not want to damage cover. I have tried soaking in goo gone and in WD-40 with no success. Any easy way to get the gaskets out?
