Default water outlet housing

hello all.new to the forums.i have a 06 2.7L 300.i just recently got back from iraq and not long before i returned the wife says theres coolant leaking.she took it to the shop and, since it wasnt covered under warranty(dont know why since it seems to be an ongoing problem with most of these)it would cost like 500 parts and labor to fix it.

thats a bit of no go.but since my return it seems to have stopped leaking.ive read up on it and it seems to happen quite oftain.my question is does that if the problem isnt with the housing itself, but the seal it makes does the whole unit really need to be replaced?or can the seal just be fixed and i be happy?the part seems to be a pain in the *** to replace since it goes underneath the intake manifold and all that jazz.but i figure i should get it fixed before i have a giant river of coolant shoot out of my hood
