Default 4.7L Motor - 2007 vs. 2008 and 2009?

Just wrecked a 2008 Aspen with 4.7L motor and looking to replace.

I know the 4.7 motors in 2007 was completely changed in 2008 and 2009 models. Anyone have experience with BOTH motors or at least the 2007 in the Aspen? From what I can tell the hp went from up from 235 to 290.

Is that a huge performance differnce in the Aspen?

Thanks for any replies!

My wife had an 07 with the 4.7 in it. It was dead and only got 11 mpg in the city. We would literly have to floor it going up steep hills sometimes.

No we bought it used with 42k on it. They Hill I am talking about is pretty steep, but it is one that you have to pull out in an intersection and merge so you have to give it some gas to get going too, but it seemed dead compared to my 08 with the HEMI. My father in law's 2000 dodge ram with the 318 feels like it has more power than the 2007 4.7 to me, but his truck is probably lighter also. Sadly we only had that Aspen with the 4.7 26 days because someone texting and driving rear ended my wife at 60 mph while at a complete stop and totaled it. I do feel though if I had kids in the 3rd row even after that impact they would not have been seriously injured just whiplash and other things. The back window didnt even blow out. Plus I drove it 4 miles home even after being totaled. The Aspen does get a A+ in safety and that is important to me.

I know they are getting harder to find, but if you find one with the Hemi get it because I can get 20 mph on the highway and 15-16 around town due to them having the MDS. I also get the same MPG on 87 and 89 octane, but the Hemi does seem to run better on 89 so I use it.

Thanks so much for the replies! Good to hear no one got hurt in your wreck.

So the 5.7 HEMI really got that kind mileage in an Aspen? Im asking because I drove one for a couple days 3 years ago that was new and I could barely get if to 15 overall with quite a bit of highway driving along with some in town and hill areas. Thanks again for any further info...

I drove mine from Knoxville, TN to Cincinnati, OH which has some mountains you have to go through and I got 19.8 on the way up and 18.6 on the way back. If you are in the city and have to stop a bunch of red lights you will get between 13.5 and 14.5 in mine. On my way to work which has some hills and if I dont get on it I will get 16.
