Default How do you remove the spare tire?

I helped a friend at work change a tire today and saw him unscrew a bolt in his hatch that lowered his spare tire and it got me thinking. How do you get to the spare on the Aspen?

I looked in the hatch and found a bolt under a flap and grommet but it doesn't look like it's for the tire. I looked in the manual but that wasn't much help. Does anyone have the instructions?

Well I found out that this is how you lower the spare, but I'm missing the tool to loosen the bolt in the hatch. I have the jack and crow bar mounted to the floor under the passengers seat but I'm missing the "Jack Wrench Extention" tool used to turn that stud in the first pic.

Sounds like it's time for a junkyard expedition. Sure wouldn't want to be stuck in Bono and have a flat.

Or maybe check Craftsman for the proper sized socket that may fit and keep that handy.

I bought it at CarSense, so I have 6 mo's to get things like this taken care of (on them). Same with the wiper caps. I just want to get my list together and get everything done at once so I don't have to go back and fourth.

Reminds me of when a friends new GM car got a flat and his car had the wrong jack handle.
Fortunately my cheaper GM car had the correct tools.

I'm one who always try the jack tools ahead of time.
Doing that I found my Chrysler 1986 LeBaron was missing a jack "stud" under the sill.
