3rd party (not the manufacturer) extended warranties are seldom a good idea. The dealer is excited to sell it to you because they stand to make a substantial profit on it, even though they know that there are all sorts of limitations on what is covered in most 3rd party warranties. Take a close look at the paperwork - I bet you'll find that there are many exclusions to the warranty.
My opinion is that you'd be way better off putting that $1,500 in the bank in case something goes wrong mechanically during the next 30k miles. Chances are good that the $1,500 will cover what goes wrong, and you don't have to worry about exclusions, getting approval for the work, etc. if something does happen. You're basically thinking about giving someone your money and then asking permission to use it if something goes wrong.
You already have powertrain coverage through Chrysler, so you have some assurance that a major repair will be covered. Of course, I'm not telling you what to do - this is just the way my wife and I approached this same decision when we bought our Aspen used, which has been pretty much perfect for 25k miles now.
