$700 labor charge for timing belt & waterpump change..?
Hi All,
So i was picking-up my 06 Pacifica from the dealership for some unrelated service work. Since I would be needing to have my timing belt replaced in a year or two, I asked the service tech how much would be the labor cost for having a timing belt and water pump replaced? He said it would be around $700.
Does that sound like a fair market rate for such a service?

That website is quoting a lower price to me, may be that website calculates the cost depending upon your zipcode.

They are factoring in a random parts price and who knows what labor rate. They need to tell you the labor in hours not $$$. Labor rates differ all over the country and from shop to shop.

$186, $86 and 3.1 hours labor. Add coolant to that too, and taxes.
I've looked at doing this myself and this doesn't look like a very fun job. If you haven't already I'd have the plugs changed as well if you're close or over 100,000. The front three plugs are under the intake manifold which requires removal to change the plugs. I've had very few issues with my Pacifica but working under the hood is not a pleasure for sure.
I'm not surprised by the 700 labor quote. I've gotten a quote as high as 1200 for timing belt, tensioner and water pump. It is kind of a pain to work on this vehicle.

I paid $650 for the timing belt, tensioner and water pump. I also had them change the serpentine belt while in there. So, you are in the ball park. Mechanic said it was a PITA, car runs great, tho.
