Anyone know what Code p0016 means?
The wife was driving last night and as we were stopped at a red light. The bell went off and the check engine light went on then the car sputtered and died on the spot. we got it towed back to the house and this morning my neighbor who is a service tech for mercedes came over to give it a look. He plug it into his little diagnostic reader and it came back with a code p0016 camshaft crankshaft corelation. I don't have a clue as to what this means or how much this is gonna cost to repair. any feedback would be appreciated.

RE: Anyone know what Code p0016 means?
Thanks dtech I appreciate the info. I did a little research on the code and came up with some possible causes
1. Base engine problem (i.e., the camshaft timing is not correct)
2. intermittent condition
3. CKP or CMP sensorsignal is erratic
4. Tone wheel or pulse wheel is damaged or contains debris
5. CKP or CMP sensor, harness or connector has failed
I was just hoping that this wasn't gonna end up costing me a ton.
Also was thinking that since I live in vegas and it hardly ever rains if it was possible that the two days of rain over thanksgiving could have had any possible effect on the wiring connectors. once again thanks on the reply.

Wouldn't think the rain would have any effect but it might i've seen stranger things. Does it start at all now or does it just turn over? If it doesn't start at all we can rule out the intermittent signal/condition. I would start checking connections at the ckp and cmp sensors and just make sure that they aren't damaged and the connections are good.

I have a 95 infiniti j30 which did the same thing. A friend told me it was probably the crankshaft position sensor and that I should disconnect the battery and leaqve it disconnected for 15 minutes before I did anything else. I did and when I reconnected the battery it fired right up. Theat was 3 yrs ago and has failed since.
