Default AWD to FWD?

Please forgive me as I do not know a lot about cars. I was recently told that I could switch my 2005 Chrysler Pacifica AWD to FWD and that it would save on gas. Is switching from AWD to FWD possible? If so is it something that can easily be changed and would it in fact save on gas? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you!

As far as I know (and I don't know alot...) The Pacificas are FWD until and only if driving conditions are such that (and the computer controls this) that it deems AWD is necessary. It is not an off-road AWD vehicle. It is just to make handling better in certain conditions, and I do not believe you can set it to AWD yourself. So you are about 95% of the time in FWD.
