Default "Destroyed/Flat Camshaft as if I NEVER changed the oil?" Help!

94,000 2004 Pacifica making Rat tat tat/knock esp. on accel. after re-feuling from a 0 miles til empy tank. None whatsoever issues with car since date of purchase. Chrysler says 4th cylinder has low pressure, and wanted $800 just to further investigate -...so I brought it to my local mechanic. Found that the Camshaft is destroyed/flat as if were starved of oil, broken rocker arm. Said that was as far as he needed to go to see the problem. Repair & drive, repair & sell, or put in a used motor? We just paid this car off May 2009.

What does he want for the repair? How is the rest of the car. No car payments can be a nice thing.

Local Mechanic $4000 for Reman engine 3/36 from Chrys, $2000 Labor.
Chrysler wants $4000 for Reman engine 3/36 and about, $3000 Labor.
Found used engine for $850/90 day warranty(have to invest. vin w/carfax) $2000 install. Install. is not in the warranty on the used.
Car has 94,000. Local mechanic says get rid of it, I will be married to it if I don't. Besides that, it is pretty much mint, besides a bit of rust starting(paint bubble the side of nail head) on the hood. This could be a problem though in a year or two.

AND??? What piece might that be? And what about the root cause of the failure, and what about the damage that has been done elsewhere in the engine???

Where do you guys come up with this nonsense...

Now....kmuscat, Which engine are we discussing? 3.5, or 3.8..?

Just some food for thought, CARFAX is Useless............ If Roll my car into a ditch, drag it out and have the neighbors kid repaint it for me with watercolor markers, and pay him cash....It cant POSSIBLY show on a carfax.....
