05 Pacifica, 3.5L, 152k miles. My oil light comes on intermittently. Have been told that it may be a bad engine oil pressure switch. I would like to change the switch this weekend (part is $25 at Chrysler dealer parts desk).

Is this a bear to get to, to change? It looks like the switch is located at the front, lower left side of the engine. To get to it appears very challenging. Has anyone replaced this switch? Could the periodic oil light flash suggest something else?

Any directions, diagrams, instructions, suggestions, alternate ideas, and experience is much obliged...

Is the "oil pressure sending unit" the same as the "oil pressure switch"?

If not, can anyone explain (and describe the location) of the former?

yes its the same thing it is right near the oil filter.

 

Thanks Mr. C-Tech. So I should approach this job from the bottom up rather than the top down? In other words, get out the floor jacks?

OK, jacked the front-end up and looked up next to the oil filter and getting to the oil pressure sensor looks impossible (to me). I bought a new switch at a Chrysler Parts desk.

It looks like to get to it, I have to take off a cylinder looking thing (oil pump?) that is connected to the timing belt. Just removing the oil filter seems like not enough. The sensor is up and to the "right" (toward the passenger side). I can't even get an eye on it.

Can I get to the oil pressure sensor if I take off the lower front bumper cover? This looks like a "beyond Weekend Wrench" sort of a job.

Any directions are appreciated.

this is all there is 10 min job use an oil pressure switch socket or an o2 sensor socket not a wrench

REMOVAL
Raise vehicle on hoist.
Position an oil collecting container under switch location.
Disconnect electrical connector.
Unscrew oil pressure switch from oil filter adapter (Engine Oil Cooler and Filter Ad).

Thank you. It just seems that I cannot reach the oil sensor switch to get at it? I'll buy the correct socket and see if I can get at it from the underside/front of the engine.

Any details on getting to this thing is appreciated.

Drove home the new-to-us 2004 Sebring GTC w/2.7 l engine, yesterday. Just our luck, the oil light indicated intermittently when the wife drove it home from work.

Where is the best/handiest place to thread in an adaptor and gauge line?

What is the ohm range for the oil sensor, and the typical values at engine off and at idle?

(Haven't received the diagnostic manuals I ordered last nite on ebay, yet.)
