Talking Marathon trip in a pac

Reading posts on forums sometimes give the impression that stuff is always going wrong with Pacs. While there have been problem areas for some I will tell you this little story. June 2010 we trusted our red '07 Pac Touring 4.0 FWD to take us from South Dakota to Alaska and most importantly BACK. The trip took 25 days and 7,810 miles (not counting miles on the Alaska Ferry System). I had put on new Cooper CS4 tires and a new battery and replaced the tierod ends before leaving. The Pac performed like a champ. Comfortable, roomy and absolutely no mechanical or other problems. We averaged 25.9 MPG (helped some by Canadian speed limits). At times we were traveling in remote areas and the thought crosses ones mind that one broken belt, one malfunction of any kind and we could be delayed for days or even in some danger. There was one encounter with a mother moose who did not want to give up the road and had her two calfs with her. We stopped and she eventually went into the woods. One last item. You will hear horror stories about the Alaska highway. This is very much overblown. Most of the highway is good to excellent blacktop. The worst we encountered was a portion in the Yukon several miles up to the Alaska boarder. Hope this was of some interest.

Thumbs up Marathon trip in a pac

Nice little story. We have had some nice trips with ours too.

Our 04 3.5 AWD Pacifica like many other Pacs need a litte extra TLC in it's everyday life compared to other cars. But it has never let us down on this kind of trips. We usually cross Europe every summer from Norway to Romania. This is a trip at 8000Km crossing 6 countries (Norway,Denmark, Germany,Austria, Hungary,Romania) during 3-4 weeks. One year We also did Sweden, Poland, Checkia and Slovakia. This year we crossed Netherland and Belgium and visited Paris, France on our way to Romania. The space and comfort of the pac. makes these trips a pleasure for us and our two kids.

Three years ago we was short on time for the vacation and desided to do the trip without stops. We travelled 3000 km in 26 hours(each way) without any other stops than filling gas and visiting toilet.

Like you say too, sdhusker, a roadside breakdown could be a disaster as there are wery few of these cars in Europe. Delivery time for some parts is up to three weeks! On these trips the last three years we have never ever seen another Pacifica! It gets quite a lot of attention
The only "problem" we have had so far was a TPMS sensor failing when the temperature passed 38 degrees celcius! (A/C is nice)

Romanian countryside roads does not exactly deserve to be called highways!(even if they are marked as European mainroads). Flushed away bridges are quite normal. The front end has got more than one major hit in the deep holes in the road. Sometimes I'm afraid a wheel has been ripped off when we hit, but it has survived so far. We are now in the middle of this years vacation. New tie rod ends and bushings for the sway bar is ordered and waiting when we get home. My dear pacifica deserves them after being beaten up on it's third Romania trip.
