Default turn key on-off-on-off-on, throws code

On my 05 pacifica, if I turn key on, off, on,off, on....it shows a diagnostic code....p0440...then hesitates and says p off, I think. I was reading about a post where a Town and Country owner was doing this to get codes and I did it on my pacifica and sure enough it threw up this code, but I don't know what it means.
anyone know about this?
Terry

http://www.engine-light-help.com/P00...ine-light.html

thanks, but I had it smoke tested and it turned up negative...the link above talks about the code and a relationship with "upstream oxygen sensor" not throwing an appropriate response, thus generating the code. It goes on to say that it could be faulty or crossed wiring or maybe just the sensor needs replaced....the car has 62K on it.
what do you think?

U said 440 not 40 so which one is it and a smoke test will not alwase show up U are talking about a hole the size of a pin head as well.

Yes thanks again for your response....I think it was the 040 code, I just typed it wrong....I reset by disconnecting the battery and now it just says p done, when I do the key ...on/off, etc.
and the check engine light did not come on today, since the reset...I will keep my eye on it, and if it does reappear, will verify the code .
Assuming , that's the correct code, can it be an issue with the "upstream O2 sensor?"
thanks again,
Terry

Yes, it came back...and it is the evap p0440 code like I first reported....
so with a new gas cap, and a smoke test that doesn't show anything, and I desire to sell the car to someone who may be bothered by a check engine light, what do you suggest?
Purge solenoid, carbon canister, pin hole leak, etc. next steps?
thanks,
Terry

Will the 07's do the same by the on off on method? How many on's and off's do we do? I know on my 05 liberty it did it, but for the life of me I can't remember how many times you do it. Thanks for the answer! (I hope)
