Default Is there a better alternative?

Hello all,

Just bought my wife a 2002 PT and she is loving it. We need to get another key made as we only have one. Called the stealership and it is $106 to get a new key bough, cut and programmed. Is there an alternative to getting another key not so pricey?

IS your ignition key Gray...or black.....

The Gray key is what is called a "SKIM" or "SKREEM" key. and unfortunately, there is no way around it.

If you had a second functional key,There is a procedure to program a third and fourth key... But at the moment, since you only have the one...Your kinda stuck.

Your key has a "Transponder" in the handle, which the vehicle must recognize when it is inserted. The vehicle must be "TOLD" that this is an acceptable transponder code for use....Without the programming....your key is useless.

I get customers all the time with your issue, and many times arrangements can be made with the selling dealer to offset the cost of the second key.

ok and what are the other options? U cant program a skim key yourself unless u have 2 working keys u would need a dealer or a shop that has access to the skim secret key number and a scanner that is able to perform this function.

as far as i know, if you have some type of Programed key you have to go though the dealer ship due to the codes they have to import into it are specific to your car receiver. if they weren't you would be able to walk around a parking lot and unlock everyones Chrysler with the remote door locks lol

Now you MIGHT be able to just get a spare key made with just a key, like i have a base model pt so i didn't get a receiver on my key, its just a standard key. if your looking for just an extra key you might be able to take route, i dont see why wally world or a key maker couldn't just make a copy of the actual key.

Yes absolutely...The KEY "BLANKS" are Identical.....

But it will ONLY unlock the doors....It wont start the car. There was a thread a while back....It might be worth the read.

'06 Sebring locks out when car is on

If You wanted Dealership Service, You wouldnt Go To "Discount Quik Lube" , So why did you Walk into a dealership Expecting QUIK LUBE PRICING????

Ma'am, It costs so much money, because ...I CAN, And you CANNOT, And It matters Not to Me, Because I HAVE A RIDE HOME.
