'02 2.7L Belt Tensioner

Hello, I'd like to know for those of you who've changed the AC/Alt belt on the 2.7 whether the belt will simply slip off the tensioner with little effort or whether you need to use some kind of impliment to force the belt with the tensioner in full slack position. I recently discovered a leak near the thermostat housing and replaced the lower hose, thermostat and gasket. I needed to remove the belt in the process. The belt that was originally on the car doesn't want to go back on the car, I place it on the crank, Alt and AC compresser and i'm missing a good 3/4 of an inch of room to get it on the tensioner. Do I have the wrong belt? -Andrew

The belt tensioner has a pivot bolt and a locking bolt. You must loosen both to free up the tensioner and allow it to move. Then you can pivot the tensioner, install the new belt and use a breaker bar in the square hole to re-apply tension on the new belt. While holding the tension, tighten the lock bolt and pivot bolt.
