Default 2004 Sebring Engine Sludge

Just got it. Any way to tell if there is a sludge issue? Any preventatives?

You could remove the front valve cover and take a look. If it's a gooey mess, you'll know. Might be able to see a mess looking into the oil fill hole. Prevention includes changing the oil as recommended.

Thank you. Mechanic sees no evidence and suggests 3000 mile oil changes and cleaner every third change.

I'd follow the manufacturer's recommendations for oil change interval and viscosity.
