Default 98 sebring lxi dies at stops

Just got this 98 sebring. It idles in driveway just fine but as soon as you start driving it will die when you let off the gas to stop. Previous owner replaced plugs and wires, cap, crank sensor, mass air sensor, and finally gave up after replacing distributor. Had the car coded but no codes came up. Friend suggested unplugging idle air control and if that was it, problem would stop, it didn't. Read elsewhere about the EGR but haven't tried that yet. Any other suggestions greatly appreciated

Sounds to me like the throttle position sensor. I currently have a code for the EGR, and my car does none of this. 229k miles and counting.

Wouldn't the throttle position sensor throw a code?

I had a so called mechanic friend look at it. He unplugged the egr and cleaned the map sensor, now the car still starts but won't run at all unless you keep your foot on the gas. Even with that it runs really i mean really rough. Is there a way to check the map or the egr. thanks
