Default Air Bag Light on, Gauges not working- '00 JXI Convertible 2.5 V6

Hey all,

After searching the forum with no clear results, Ive decided to ask for help.

None of the gauges are working (including the odometer and gear selector) and the "AIR BAG" light stays on.

I've checked all known fuses and they appear fine. In the Haynes manual they recommend taking it to the dealer for diagnostics.

I've made the following observations regarding this issue:

Things that are NOT working:
Tach
Speedo
Fuel gauge
Coolant temp
"PRND3L"
Odometer

Things that are STILL working:
Info center (MPG, compass, distance to empty, etc.)
Wipers
Horn
Turn indicators
Cruise control (although the light no longer comes on)
Headlights (High beam light no longer works)
Radio
Pwr windows, locks, mirrors, etc.
Electric top works fine too.

Basically everything operates as it should, except the instrument cluster.

Has anyone had experiences with this problem? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Matt.

Thanks for the link, although I'm not sure it's a connectivity issue within the cluster. There seems to be a drain on the battery as well and once the car is jump started, all gauges return to normal. .Then, after a week or so, the digital odometer starts flashing in sequence; outside digits first, then inside digits. When this happens, the analog gauges continue to work, as well as the odometer (it just flashes chaotically like disco lights)

It seems to me that when the battery dies and the vehicle is subsequently restarted, something resets itself.

The battery in the car is two weeks old and the charging system functions properly.

???
