Default 04' Sebring Vs The Rain!

Hello,
I have a 2.7L 2004 Sebring. The car seems to run normal on dry conditions, but has trouble getting going after heavy precipitation. The car will sputter when started and does not react well when the gas pedal is pressed. There is much hesitation, and will not increase RPMs regularly. It will also stall if the idle drops too low. Today, the car took 45 minutes to warm up and accelerate correctly (seems to begin working when the car reaches normal running temp). The code that came up for the check engine light was for a small evap leak. I think there may me a leak in the exhaust system, could this be part of the moisture issue? I have read that some people have had water get into the plug cables; does this seem common with the Sebring? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt

This is not a common problem with a Sebring. I would check carefully to see that all the splash protectors and weather seals around the engine compartment are in place. Take a look under there next time it rains and see if things are getting wet where they shouldn't. You might need to disconnect all the wiring connections and spray them with something to dry them out.
