03-Sebring Sadan
Had an oil change yesterday and mentioned to the guy that I have noticed a little oil in the driveway. When they were finished, he said that the oil pan was leaking and that they would have to reseal it. He also said that this is a very common problem with the Sebring when it gets to about 45,000 miles. Is this true? I've been searching the forums and can not find a similar problem.
The same place did my oil change 3 months earlier, I just assumed that they did not tighten something enough. Quite a shock when they gave me a quote of $250 to reseal that pan. Any advise?

$250. is way too high, check around for a price.

250 is about right if U have a 2.7 engine

 

Is it a 4 hr task?? This seams to be extream.

Thanks for the replies! Yes, it is a 2.7. I'll call around for pricing as suggested. Do you think this is a common problem or is it caused by something? I'm asking because I recently changed jobs and now have a 2 hour drive each day.

I do apolgize, my dealer confirmed that it could cost up to $250 with the oil change and all. I'm still shocked, where are the days of 10 bolts and a tube of gasket maker!!

Check your pcv valve and the other end of the tube too! I am currently rebuilding a 2.7 due to lack of maintance(not me). If it is plugged, the pressure has to go somewhere, usually out the oil pan or valve cover gaskets.

 

i've been doing chrysler along time(means i'm old)and have only replaced 2 oil pan gaskets on the 2.7.one was from being hit.the second one was because somebody never replaced their oil,i'm going to say your pan is not leaking,i would take the car to another place to see if they say anything about the oil leak.because most guys would say something just to cover themselves,ifthey don't then the first guy must have been covering his butt!!moe

 

I have replaced the pan gasket and timing cover alot I have a 98 and mine is leaking hehe just lazy and dont wanna do the job just yet plus I haft to do valve stem guids at the same time.
BTW MOE they said reseal the pan not replace it.
