Default Replacing Upper Control Arm on 03 Sebring

Hello All,

I'm attempting to replace the control arm/ball joint on my 03 Sebring and I'm hitting a brick wall. I have removed the spring/shock and installed the control arm with no problem. When I went to reinstall the spring/shock, I couldn't get past the control arm to release the spring compressor. So removed the control arm, reinstalled the spring/shock and tried to reinstall the control arm, and I couldn't get enough space to thread the bolts for the control arm. Is there some trick I'm missing here? Does anyone have any suggestions?

What are you using as a spring compressor?

Chrysler recommends a big, expensive tool that fits completely over the top of the upper spring mount, but it's not practical for the DIYer. There are other types like this, for example:

that come in from one side only and may work better for you. Another possibility is to take the parts over to a shop that does a lot of springs and struts and ask them to assemble the strut for you (for a fee, I'm sure). They have different equipment that is wall- or floor-mounted and that is powered by air or hydraulics and is very quick.

Let us know what you finally decide on and how it works out.
