Single Thump/Jerk When Accelerating or Braking ?
I have an 04 Sebring I bought recently with 128000 miles. I have a single thump or clunk with a mild jerk when I accelerate at slow speed or brake at slow speed less than 30 - 40 miles an hour . Its not all the time either. I first thought it might be transmission related but I also read it may be a motor mount bad . I was going to get the transmission service done and take it from there. If any one has any experience or suggestions please advise.
Thank you !

If the thump occurs simultaneously with a gear shifting either up or down, it's probably related to the transmission, but there might be a fault code in the computer that could be read with the right equipment. Not any code reader will do.
If it's more random then I'd suspect a motor mount or possibly a suspension component. Somebody's going to have to get under there and take a good look.

I took it to shop yesterday, I had the transmission service done, they said it was pretty dirty and had never been done before but there was a magnet in the bottom of the pan that catches most of the debris and that the transmission looked good. I can tell that it shifts smoother , I could hardly feel it shifting . So I think thats all good, but they did say the back struts were original and were going bad. I got an estimate for close to $600 for that does that sound about right ? I did not notice the clunk after I picked it back up yesterday.
Thanks

Nice thing about having a strut problem like yours is that it's at a non-critical stage and since it's a fairly routine repair, you can shop around at several different facilities and get their prices. My bet is that with some diligence, you'll get a better number.
