The manual gearbox uses ATF+4 fluid, A fluid change won't do any harm but I'd surprised if it helps.

Just wondering if your cables are stretched and lever in gearbox is not being pulled enough to engage slides/mechanism on detent *****. But you say you have engaged it manually under hood and its still the same. You say you opened gearbox, did you find any loose nuts on end of shafts. The Renault scenic engine jumps out of 5th gear when gears end nut comes loose or falls off.
If all else fails its a Gearbox out job...Try second hand.
