Default 98 town and country instrument intermittent

New to forum so hope this is where this question should go. I have a 1998 lxi with 3.8 motor. Gauges randomly go to zero position. Odometer and "prndl12" blanks out. Alarm set/abs/low wash fluid indicators light up. They don't all do it at the same time and it comes and goes. When the speedometer goes to zero when it comes back the doors lock again. When the gas gauge goes to empty the low fuel light comes on and the distance to empty on the over head console goes to zero. No effect on starting or the way it runs.

I have taken the cluster out and resoldered the terminals. Made no difference.

Anybody seen this one?

Thanks.
Gary

Looks like you have a slack or corroded connection somewhere. Check connections on bottom of IPM first. Then take out gauges and look for the same. At the most a replacement gauge set may be required due to poor soldering. Unless you can find and see the finest of cracks.

Thanks for the feedback. Getting a cluster to put in Friday. Not optimistic that is it but will at least eliminate it from the equation.

Goggs is giving you the right info. I myself have had to reflow the solder joints on many
clusters. The oxidation occurs within the solder. Not visible to the eye. This actually a common problem. Although the car makers aren't going to admit to it.

Turned out to be the battery. My brother has been driving the van. He told me he has been having to jump it and put it on the charger quite often. I put a new battery in and over the course of 2-3 days of driving the problem gradually went away.

Thanks again for the input.
