AC clutch don't kick in
The AC clutch wont kick in when ac button is pushed. The light comes on on the button. On a cool day the cold still blows hot air. After the ac stopped working there has been the smell of burning wires in the van.
We have had the van for about 3 weeks and the freon was checked when we bought it, and it was fully charged. When we bought it there was a slight rattle from the engine when the ac clutch kicked in. A mechanic told me it was the idler pulley.
Anyone have a clue to as what may be happening. Please help.
Thanks

Hi, I don't know if you have fixed your problem yet but if not you can check to see if the clutch on the compressor is working or not. I had a problem with my '03 Voyager when the A/c clutch stopped pulling in and found that due to wear in the clutch plates the gap was too big for it to pull in. My solution was to pull off the front plate by removing the bolt in the middle of the pulley and removing the spacer washer that is located behind it and then reassembling the pulley. To get at the A/c compressor I hac to remove the plastic wheel arch cover and turn the front wheels as far as I could outwards. Good luck. I hope you sort your problem. Craig.

i had the same problem. smelled burning plastic and so on. the smell comes from the clutch when it broke. i did go under the van and saw that the clutch had lots of black like rubber or blastic stuff on it. the same stuff made the smell.
