Car Stalling! Suspect MAF?
#12
Unfortuneately I haven't got access to a scope. Not used one since my electronics days back in college. I may have a working sensor I can temporarily use for fault finding purposes. Could the fuel rail pressure sensor effect fuel economy? im starting to think it could be cam and/or crank sensor. If these are faulty they can cause poor starting, random stalling and reduce fuel economy but then so can a few other parts!

Thanks Richard. Just as a follow up, I was out at the shops for over an hour, when I got back to the car it wouldn't start on first crank but fired on second crank. Either there is a slight leak somewhere or the pressure sensor isn't doing its job properly. This afternoon I am going to swap the sensor with another and see if this helps and if the fault is replicated on the other vehicle. So much quicker with diagnosis if a had a scope.
Cheers TimmyTim I am a keen ebayer and those links are brilliant if I have to go down that route. I am happy replacing the cam sensor that is easy. How difficult is it to replace the crank sensor? As in location wise?

No worries mate. As you say... Cam on is desd easy! Not sure on the crank one ax never had to do it! But when you're underneath the motor, it should be easy to find. When I get a moment, I'll take a look at mine! But tge Mrs doesn't come back home from work untill later.

Just went for a drive with the diagnostics plugged in to get alive data feed. Everything seemed normal at idle then drove off on my way. Tried out a few different conditions, then accelerated hard up the last hill before my house slow down to negotiate the roundabout and the engine cut out!! Didnt splutter as if it were fuel starvation just cut straight out. First time for me. Went to check the diagnostics and the plug had dislodged and disconnected the feed!!!
