Your mechanic is correct, the 4.0 has a timing belt.

Just got word back from the Chrysler dealership. They said a bolt fell off of the water pump and was bouncing around in the engine damaging the timing belt, half the engine stopped spinning, bent a valve in the cylinder head, and also put a hole in the piston. They said I either can get a new engine for $5000 or have it repaired for $4700.

At this point, I am stuck, I do not have $5000 to pay for the repairs and I still owe on the vehicle.

Customer Care do I have other options?

I have never in all my 19 years working on a Chrysler seen or heard of a water pump bolt just coming out after 48k especially if it had never been taking off in the first place.

Do you not have a power train warranty for such a car? most were 8 year 80k miles.

Hi Steel Mill,

Can you private message me your VIN# and the name of the Chrysler dealership you are working with so that I can look into this a little further?
