Default Does not defrost windows when cold?

Hi, I have a 2009 grand voyager2.8crd touring,
when it's cold, about freezing, and I start van, put it on defrost, the fan blows, but nothing comes out of windshield vents, in fact nothing comes out of anywhere but can hear fan blowing, this only happens when it is cold, for about 15 mins, but that is when it's needed most! Any Other time it works well, any ideas please, or tricks to make it blow in front windscreen?

If there's no heat to be had, there's no point in blowing at the windshield. It takes time for the car to heat up enough to do any good by blowing air at the windshield. From your description, it sounds like your vehicle has automatic temperature control. The computer that drives the ATC is smart enough to not try to warm up a cold windshield with cold air.

so are you saying that no vehicle should have a windshield defrost on when car is cold, that all these vans do this, this is a danger, we are talking about inside window that dogs up, I do not know any vehicle that defrost does not work when first started, in cold, does yours?
So you advocating running engine for half hour or so before driving? Sitting in car or remotely starting and letting it run?
Im either missing something here sir, or you are talking the proverbial

Hi Poad,

Have you addressed these heat concerns with your Chrysler dealership?

These CRD GV's are notorious in minus C mornings even with supplementary Webasto heaters.

A CRD will take 15-20 minutes to get warm and sometimes even begin to cool down as you drive through cold air at speed. 1st your temp reading should reach 1/2 in about 15 minutes if your stat is in good order. 2nd most of us use air dams in front of the rad all winter it insulates the engine parked overnight, assists with warm up time, reduces the effects of overcooling when driving into cold air and improves MPG in the 15 minutes cold warm up time. Pictures and walk through for the above on this sub-forum.

Turn the digital auto off, put heat to front screen only, crank it up to full when your temp gauge goes up. Best of luck.

i think I must not have explained myself well in my post, the fan blows, I can hear it, but does not come out of any vents at all when temp is freezing, and I want it to blow on windshield to clear it, I can not drive it I can scrape outside windscreen but not inside, it keeps fogging up because there is no air being blown on it, and yes auto off, windshield defroster on and fan on high, does not matter what air temp is selected

I had a quick google out of curiosity, this suggests a blocked/partially blocked pollen filter, or an air intake issue.

If you try it on recirculate, and there's still nothing at the vents, that would suggest the air intake is ok.
