Unhappy 2000 Grand Voyager 2.5 TD

Good morning,
I have a 2000 Grand Voyager 2.5 TD with approc 125k on the clock. The other day the vehicle spluttered (as if it was going to cut out) and ever since it has lost all power.
My first thought is that the turbo has gone/seized. You try to accelerate but it is flat - will not pick up speed that quick at all.
I did notice that since we have had it; when you accelerate at night with a car behind, you see alot of diesel smoke (which I think is normal and has passed m.o.t tests)... now there is not smoke, which makes me believe the turbo has failed.
The car itself will idle fine and drives okay - just lost its power.
If anyone has any advice - it would be most appreciated!

I am going to try and change the diesel fuel filter this evening and see if that helps.

Many thanks in advance,
Regards
Graham
