Its time to replace out 2000 Caravan Sport with 128K miles. I like the Chrysler mini van but wonder if there is a problem with Chrysler transmissions. This one has been replaced at about 75K and 125K miles. Did Chrysler have issues with transmissions in 2000 model year, problems with the AWD transmission, or are transmissions just a weak point in their designs? The transmission was never abused and I never towed anything with the car. I have owned cars for over 50 years and the only other transmission problem I had was with with a Mercedes 240D at about 300K miles.

 

Weak point for about any model year. They are too light for the weight they have to haul around.

 

Is this still a problem with new Chrysler mini vans? Should I start looking at something else?

 

Even the new Chrysler vans have had their share of transmission problems. The jury is still out on whether or not it's a widespread trend. Keep in mind other manufacturers aren't immune to transmission problems of their own.
