Default Like a bucket of bricks......

Ok after my reverse light stopped working I got my local auto electrician to bypass the bcm, this fixed what would have been an expensive problem!

However since this fix, changing gear has been like stirring a basket of bricks...

The auto electrician says it couldn't have been home and he went no were near the obvious culprit areas, but this all seems to be to much of a coincidence.

Any thoughts?

If this shift problem started right after his "fix" then it sure points towards him. Did he mess with the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) circuit in the transmission? That's what turns on the reverse lights. That will screw up shifting for sure. I'm assuming you have the 4 speed 41TE tranny.

Being a manual I cant think of anything electronic that can interfere with changing gear.

Can you be a bit more descriptive? is is hard to get into gear, noisy etc?.

Check if a bit of carpet or trim is not fouling the clutch pedal as the BCM is down in that area. Other than that it's to check the mechanical linkage from the lever to the box.

Regards
Richard
