Default My Son lost my key fob

Hey guys I would like to order a replacement key for off of amazon because my son lost one of the fobs and now we only have one. Has anyone successfully replaced a key fob with only one other key fob?

If not i will have to go to a dealer and they want to charge me $250 for a new fob and programming. What do you guys think it will cost?

Thanks

If you only have the One (1) key fob in your possession then you have no choice but to get a replacement programmed by a dealer or certified locksmith.. Programming is usually a minimum of 50.00 because a computer must be used to assure the proper radio frequency is set. You can buy your Fob just about anywhere but it must be programed!... On the other hand, if you have two (2) fobs in your possession and you are wanting a third (3rd) you can program it yourself following the instructions in the owners manual. There must be 2 programmed fobs already there as you must insert each fob into the ignition one at a time before it will allow you to program a third.. even up to 8 fobs can be programmed this way. There again, if you are just down to 1 fob you have no choice but to have a pro set it up. And that's just the way it is.. Sucks huh.

You didn't state what year your model is. On the older ones with a fob separate from the key, you can program the fob if you have only one. Follow the steps in the owners manual exactly. Note that you must reprogram both the new one and the old one in succession or only the new one will work.

Although it's inconvenient to have to reprogram the newer ones using two keys, you wouldn't want some valet parking jockey to be able to make a new key for your car with ease.

BTW, Your son, the fellow who lost your key fob, is far to young to be driving anyway!
