Default Removing rear brake dust shield/back plate

I'd started stripping the back end of a voyager today hoping to salvage a rear brake back plate/dust shield.

Theres numerous heads of something that look to be securing it, I'm not sure if they're rivets or corroded boltheads.

Anyways, gave up but was going to go back for another attempt hopefully armed with more information.

Cheers

Default Rear backplate

Hi I take it you were at Loanhead, car was almost locked in with another two cars when I was there. I was only after wheel nuts after loosing my lock nuts tool. I've still too get locking front wheel nuts off yet, need extractor.
Anyway, the bolts you were referring to were probably the ones, 4 off, that mount axle/bearing/assembly to the swing arm. Back plate is in-between.
Might be good idea to get axle/bearing as well seeing your taking it off, as spare. Replacements are £60 mind you on Flee-Bay...
By the way what reg was it...

The voyager I was stripping was at Fallons in Coatbridge although the one at Loanhead is accessable now (was there too yesterday).

I'd started by taking those 4 bolts out, but it didnt seem to do anything (I was expecting it all just to fall in my lap lol)

On closer inspection, the back plate appears to have 5 or 6 pins/rivets/bolts through it attaching it to where the 4 bolts you mention come through.

On the 4 bolts front though, with those removed, is it just brute force and ignorance to remove the axle/bearing assembly? was wondering if something had to be done with the abs assembly to actually get it off.

The one in loanhead is a 52 plate petrol.

Sure is Richard, thanks. Looks like it confirms the hub definately has to come off.

Just need to find out if it's brute force and ignorance or if I'm missing something.

I'm guessing it's an ABS ring in there somewhere thats stopping me from pulling it off easily? Might go back with a big hammer and chisel.

Yes well its probably tight because its a close fit to point of interference fit.
Not sure if a slide hammer tool is required for this job...Then it just hit me...Is job not on You Tube...
To actually replace the brake shoes per manual you have to remove the hub...Eye right...managed without...
