2001 T & C Transmission down shift problem
2001 T & C with 107k miles
Please I am new so not 100% sure this is the correct forum -
Just dropped the tran pan and changed the filter-( had the dealer do it at
30k 70k ) of course added fluid and new filter.
Just took for a test drive and right before the car comes to a stop -It feels like the brakes grab ( I know it is not the brakes as I place it in nuteral and it does not make the sound) Feels like a quick down shift?
What did I do wrong?
Thanks,
Jeff

Transmission grabs hard at stopping
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM ON MY 2002 T& C. WHEN YOU COME TO A STOP THE TRANNY GRAB HARD AND STOPS THE VEHICLE DEAD. I AM TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE IN THE VALVE BODY SHIFTERS WHICH ARE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER COMMENTS TO THIS PROBLEM?
THANKS, BILL

I just had the oil changed, dropped the pan etc. had hard downshift at around 20 mph. garage checked the filter, ok. Took it to a transmission shop & the guy fixed it in 5 minutes by reprogramming the electronics with his black box. no charge. Find a good tranny guy & save money & worry.

Wally....What you are referring to is called a QUICK-LEARN procedure. It resets Clutch volume readings to account for any Clutch wear and the added fluid necessary to compensate for it. You were lucky enough to find someone who is COMPETENT enough To figure this out......
There is just something to be said about leaving things to professionals who understand what they are working with, Instead of the "QUIKIE LUBE" guy who is only concerned with the next car in line......
I know The economy is horrible, and everyone needs to cut corners where they can....But allowing someone who is totally incompetent work on your car, just cause the dealership, or specialist was more expensive.....Is a recipe for disaster...
